Review: Jane Iredale

Jun21

Jane Iredale is actually the first company to provide a full line of makeup based on minerals to the consumers.  They use no fillers, products are non-comedogenic (basically doesn't clog pores), oil free and they do not test on animals.

I'm a lippie girl so the first product I tested was a lipstick called PureMoist™ LipColour in C.J.  Its a corally pinky peach color lol...  Great description yeah?  It looks a little crazy in the tube but goes on a very pretty and not too over the top with a slight shine to it.  I actually don't care for lipsticks but this one was pretty good!  My lips get pretty chapped so usually lipsticks make it worse.  This one was actually pretty moisturizing.  It felt like a balm on.  It did have that slight lipstick taste but it went away after a couple minutes.  It also had the slightest vanilla smell.  The lasting power wasn't the best but it wasn't bad either.  The great thing is it faded away nicely and didn't leave a funky color on my lips or settle in the cracks or anything.  I would definitely try other colors in this line now that I've tried this.  They have a pretty good selection of 32 shades.  The zinc oxide in them gives an SPF of 18 which is an added bonus.  These lippies are $18 each and available here. Here's a lip swatch for ya!

I tried out the PurePressed Base Pressed Mineral Powder Foundation in Warm Sienna.  I rarely wear foundation because I just hate the feeling of foundation on my skin.  At the most I will wear a tinted moisturizer for some light coverage.  The packaging for this is so pretty and luxurious.  Its a pretty heavy, metal compact (or feels like it anyway) in gold and is refillable.  First, I applied my moisturizer and let it absorb completely.   I used a dense flat top sable brush from Sheer Miracle to apply the foundation.  I used your typical swirl, tap and buff method to apply.  It went on pretty easily but I found myself going to get more product more than I normally would with say a loose powder mineral foundation.  The color match was pretty much dead on for me and was very easy to apply.  It still gave me pretty good coverage but didn't feel heavy or mask like.  It was a little powdery at first so I sprayed a glycerin and water mixture on and buffed a little more.  It was perfect after that but I'm sure the oils from my skin would have eventually absorbed the powder.  The finish was a pretty matte one with a very very slight dewiness.  I could see this being awesome for girls with oily skin that have issues with mineral foundations being too shiny.  It also has an SPF of 20 which is higher than BE's SPF 15.  Also, the pressed form is awesome!!!  No mess and it travels well.  It actually made my skin feel soft too and lasted all day although I don't have issues with foundation lasting on me...  There is an excellent color selection for hard to match skin.  I could see myself using this when I want a matte finish and would repurchase this.  It is pretty pricey at $49.50 but I think it is well worth it for a great, no fuss foundation.

Just like the compact for the pressed powder, the packaging for the In Touch Cream Blush is gorgeous!!  It is a cream blush in a twist up stick form in a gold stubbier version of a lipstick.  It is very portable and perfect for toting with you.  It comes in 5 different colors and I tried Confidence which is deep berry color.  It is quite intense and it took me quite a bit of blending with my fingers to get it to work for me.  It is pretty thick and pigmented so I had to blend to get a natural flush.  While I was blending, I couldn't help but notice the delicious cocoa smell!!!  I wanted to bite it lol..  I was pretty happy with the end result.  It looked like my natural flush and I happen to prefer cream blushes so I loved the finish.  It was slightly luminous, nothing too obvious which I love.  I probably wouldn't grab this if I was in a rush to get ready but would definitely use this often otherwise.  They are $26 each and quite pricey so I may or may not purchase this again.

The Eye Gloss is a cream gloss that is almost gel-like.  It is in a small plastic tube that almost looks like a mini (VERY mini) lip gloss.  Even the applicator is reminscent of a gloss' doe foot applicator.  I tried out the Eye Gloss in Champagne Silk which is just like its name, a shimmery champagne, taupey color.  It is very subtle and worked best for me as an all over wash or a highlight color.  The thing I loved about this product is that it was fast and easy to apply and it was a sophisticated shimmer.  I applied it with the applicator and blended it out with my finger.  Its totally portable so I could definitely see myself throwing this in my purse to apply on the way to work lol.  I don't think I would skip my primer though because although it says it won't crease I saw some signs that it was going to crease if I wore it any longer.  It comes in 8 different colors at $15 each and I definitely would like to try more of them.

The last thing that I tried was the Longest Last Mascara in Slate Grey.  I love the packaging for this as well because its almost a lip gloss squeezable tube which ensures you get every last drop of product.  It has the classic bristle brush not the plastic applicators that a lot of mascaras use nowadays.  This is the ultimate mascara for lush, natural, touchable looking lashes if that makes sense.  It has tiny fibers in it to help thicken and lengthen lashes BUT it doesn't clump whatsoever!!  This is the perfect mascara for sensitive eyes as well!  It didn't smell weird, it didn't flake or smudge on me.  It is pretty expensive at $32 but it is a huge tube of product.  If you are looking for lashes that are your lashes but better than this is it.  However, don't expect super dramatic, thick, false looking lashes.  Try Magic Lash, which I also reviewed, but expect a little more work to get them.

Here is the final look I created with these products.  Its a pretty natural look since I didn't use any eyeshadows or liners... just the products I reviewed.
